How Ampyra Works for MS and Pediatric/Off-Label Indications

How Does Ampyra Work?

Ampyra blocks potassium channels. Potassium channels are found throughout the body and have several different functions, including playing an important role in how nerves work. It is thought that Ampyra helps nerve signals travel down the nerves that have been damaged by MS.

Can Children Use Ampyra?

Ampyra is not approved for use in people younger than 18 years of age, as it has not been adequately studied in this age group.

Off-Label Uses for Ampyra

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Ampyra for something other than MS (this would be known as an "off-label" use). At this time, there are no universally accepted off-label uses for Ampyra.
