Avonex Side Effects to Report

There are a number of side effects with Avonex that you should report to your healthcare provider. These include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Depression (see Avonex and Depression)
  • Signs of liver problems, such as yellow eyes or skin (jaundice) or easy bruising
  • Frequent infections, which may be a sign of low white blood cells
  • Unusual bruising or bleeding, which may be a sign of low blood platelets
  • Thyroid problems
  • Seizures
  • Chest pain, difficulty breathing, coughing, or other signs of heart problems
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, including unexplained rash, hives, itching, unexplained swelling, wheezing, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Final Thoughts on Avonex Side Effects

It is possible that you may experience some or none of the Avonex side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to tell whether any particular side effect (such as nausea) is caused by Avonex or other factors. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking Avonex or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
