Generic Name for Dantrium

All of the patents for Dantrium® (dantrolene sodium) have expired, and generic versions are currently available. These generics for Dantrium are sold under the name dantrolene. The brand-name product is made by JHP Pharmaceuticals, LLC, and a number of companies manufacture the generic versions. Both the brand-name and generic versions come as capsules or an injection that is given slowly into a vein.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that the generic versions of Dantrium are equivalent to the brand-name drug. However, the generics may contain different inactive ingredients than the brand-name product, which may cause problems for people with certain allergies or sensitivities.
