Reactions to Gilenya to Report

Serious Side Effects

Some Gilenya side effects are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
  • Signs of a very slow or irregular heart rate, including:


    • Fainting
    • Dizziness
    • Tiredness
    • Feeling like your heart is skipping beats


  • Any type of infection or signs of an infection (such as a fever)
  • Trouble breathing
  • Signs of liver damage, such as:


    • Dark urine
    • Yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice)
    • Upper right abdominal (stomach) pain
    • Very high liver enzymes
  • Signs of macular edema, such as:
    • Blurriness, shadows, or a blind spot in the center of your vision
    • Sensitivity to light
    • Unusually colored vision
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Swelling of the mouth or throat
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing.

Final Thoughts

You may experience some or none of the side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have problems with a medicine that you have never tried.
