Multiple sclerosis currently affects about 2.5 million people worldwide. Women are 2-3 times more likely than men to get MS.
Multiple sclerosis is unusual in children and people in their early teenage years. The disease most frequently begins in early adulthood. People are at increased risk of developing MS from the mid-teen years until age 35. After age 35, the risk gradually begins to decline.
