Gilenya Medication Information

GilenyaTM (fingolimod) is available only by prescription and is used to treat multiple sclerosis in adults age 18 and older. This drug is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before prescribing Gilenya.

Unlike most other multiple sclerosis medicines that are given by injection, Gilenya comes in capsule form and is taken by mouth once a day. This medication helps to prevent relapses and to delay the development of physical disability caused by multiple sclerosis.

Although many people do not have any problems while taking this medicine, Gilenya can cause side effects, such as headaches, diarrhea, and back pain. If negative reactions do occur, they tend to be minor and easily treated.
