Multiple Sclerosis Treatments
Although there is currently no cure for MS, many advancements have been made in the understanding and treatment of this disease. The primary goals of treatment for multiple sclerosis are to control the immune system and address symptoms of the disease, such as extreme fatigue and spasticity (muscle tightness and stiffness).
Specific options can include:
- Medications, such as beta-interferons or steroids
- Physical or occupational therapy, which may involve the introduction of canes, walkers, or other mobility aids
- Emotional support, such as working with a counselor or social worker.
