Novantrone Drug Interactions

Novantrone Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Novantrone is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Amphotericin B
Combining amphotericin B with Novantrone may increase the risk for amphotericin B side effects, such as kidney damage, low blood pressure (hypotension), and lung problems. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely for these side effects if you take these medicines together.

Clozapine
Taking Novantrone with clozapine may increase the risk for dangerously low white blood cell counts, which could lead to serious infections. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medicines together. However, do not stop taking clozapine unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Denosumab
Combining Novantrone with denosumab could increase your risk for developing potentially serious infections. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely for infection if you take these medicines together.

Echinacea
Echinacea could potentially decrease the effectiveness of Novantrone. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking echinacea during treatment.

Leflunomide
Taking Novantrone with leflunomide could increase your risk for low blood cell counts, which could lead to infections or bleeding problems. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely if you take these medicines together.

Live Vaccinations
Live vaccines contain live viruses or bacteria. You could become infected with the virus or bacteria if you receive a live vaccine during Novantrone treatment. Also, live vaccines may be less effective in people receiving this medication. Talk to your healthcare provider before receiving a vaccination or immunization during treatment to make sure it is safe for you to do so.

Natalizumab
Combining Novantrone with natalizumab could increase your risk for developing potentially serious infections. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medicines together. He or she may choose to monitor you more closely for infections.

Pimecrolimus
Combining Novantrone with pimecrolimus may increase your risk for pimecrolimus side effects, including infections and skin cancer. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medicines together.

Sipuleucel-T
Novantrone could decrease the effectiveness of sipuleucel-T. This is because sipuleucel-T is thought to work by stimulating the body's immune system, while Novantrone decreases the activity of the immune system. Talk to your healthcare provider about this possible interaction before taking these drugs together.

Tacrolimus
Combining Novantrone with tacrolimus may increase your risk for tacrolimus side effects, including infections and skin cancer. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medicines together.

Tofacitinib
Taking Novantrone with tofacitinib may increase your risk for low white blood cell counts and infections. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medicines together. He or she may choose to monitor you more closely.
