BG-12 for MS

Formerly known as BG-12, Tecfidera™ (dimethyl fumarate) is used for multiple sclerosis (MS) treatment. Specifically, this prescription medication is approved to treat relapsing forms of MS. Clinical studies have shown that Tecfidera can help reduce the number of attacks a person has. Attacks occur when MS symptoms become worse.

Although it is not quite clear how Tecfidera works, it is thought to activate a certain protein in the body that protects cells from damage caused by the production of harmful chemicals produced during many normal body functions. This drug may also have anti-inflammatory effects, which can help minimize damage.
