Tizanidine hydrochloride (
Zanaflex®) is a medication that is available by prescription to treat symptoms of spasticity, such as muscle spasms. It comes in the following forms and strengths:
- Tizanidine 2 mg capsules
- Tizanidine 4 mg capsules and tablets
- Tizanidine 6 mg capsules.
The recommended starting dosage is 4 mg of tizanidine every six to eight hours as needed, up to three times daily. If necessary, your healthcare may increase this amount. For this drug to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Do not stop taking it suddenly, especially if you have been taking it for quite a while.
